Presenting ARC's Sixth India Forum
Winning Strategies and Best Practices for Process Industries Driving Performance During Economic Downturn
July 23-25, 2009 - Hyderabad, India
ARC’s Sixth India Forum Brings to Fore Sharing of Ideas with Technology Experts, Peers, and Solution Providers in Indian Process Industry
ARC’s Sixth India Forum attracted more than 320 delegates despite the prevailing negative sentiments due to the global economic crisis. The presence of so many key people from different industry verticals was certainly encouraging both for Forum sponsors and ARC. The three-day Forum focused on India’s process industry challenges and charted a roadmap to successfully overcome them. The Forum was structured to help senior executives from process industries, responsible for developing and implementing automation and enterprise strategies, emerge best-in-class and gain global competitiveness through continuous improvements. Over 50 speakers from different industry verticals shared their thoughts and experiences about best practices and through presentations.
The Forum provided an excellent platform for manufacturing companies to learn about winning strategies and best practices that would deliver performance even during economic downturn. Thought leaders shared their views about leveraging enabling technologies for achieving operational excellence. Thought leaders spoke about the benefits of technology adoptions in their plant. Some end users utilized the opportunity to publicly seek answers from peers and solution providers for their specific challenges.

Rajabahadur V Arcot, ARC Director for South Asia, began the forum with a keynote address on driving enterprise-wide performance. He began with a macro overview of India’s economy, and highlighted that the future growth of the manufacturing industry will come from productivity improvements rather than from demand pulled capacity expansions. Following the keynote, several presenters spoke about optimizing operational, human, and business excellence initiatives and stressed the importance of automation and technology upgrades. The inaugural on July 24 was done by Shri VK Sibal, Director General, Directorate General of Hydrocarbons. In his inaugural speech the Chief Guest spoke about bridging the gap between academics and the corporate sector, and the importance of improving quality and productivity, and being innovative in our approach. Following the inaugural, Rajabahadur announced the formation of the Manufacturing IT community of India which would provide access to information and interaction between registered members. ARC President Andy Chatha presented next, discussing current business drivers and trends.
ARC had separate co-branded sessions which were held in conjunction with the sponsors: ABB, IPS, Rockwell Automation, Schneider Electric, and TCS. The central theme was achieving operational excellence through productivity improvements, efficiency enhancements, asset lifecycle management, and meeting industry challenges by leveraging enabling technologies.
The last day of the Forum focused on specific industry challenges. Andy Chatha began the first session with a presentation on asset information management. He spoke about the virtual plant concept in asset lifecycle management. The specific industry tracks followed, including sessions on Chemicals, Oil, and Gas including Refining and Petrochemicals; Pharmaceuticals and Food & Beverage; Captive Power Plants; Cements, Metals & Mining, Pulp & Paper, and others. Each industry track was chaired by industry recognized leaders. The session chairman of the Electric Power Industry tracks was Vivek Ghate, Vice President GMS, Reliance Industries; the Chemicals, Oil, and Gas track chairman was Rajamani, former MD, MRPL; the Pharmaceutical, Food & Beverage track was chaired by Shyam Bang, Executive Director, Jubilant Organosys; and the Metals & Mining track was chaired by Ajay K Dhir, CIO, JSL.
Panel discussions, participated by invited end users and suppliers were highly interactive, and they took place alongside case study presentations. |
