Mitsubishi to Strengthen Industrial Automation Systems Business in India through Acquisition of Messung Group

Keywords: PLC, HMI, AC Dive.

Mitsubishi Electric announced that it has acquired the Messung Group, a manufacturer of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and human machine interfaces (HMIs) and one of Mitsubishi Electric's sales and distribution partners in India. The financial terms were not disclosed.

The Messung Group, headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra State, which has partnered with Mitsubishi Electric for some 15 years, will be merged with Mitsubishi Electric India (MEI), headquartered in Gurgaon, Haryana State. A business transfer agreement signed by Mitubishi Electric and the Messung Group in December 2011 is expected to be completed by the end of March 2012 to finalize the acquisition. Operations of the consolidated business will commence in April.

Following the contract, Mitsubishi will relocate its operational headquarters for its factory automation business from Gurgaon to Pune, where the Messung Group has its headquarters and development and manufacturing facilities. In Pune, Mitsubishi has already made a plan to start AC drive manufacturing from January 2013 at a volume of 150,000 units per year (FY2013).

The Messung Group was established in 1981 and has 10 sales offices including Mumbai, Nagpur, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Baroda, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Coimbatore. Employees are about 400. Mitsubishi will use two brands in India, Mitsubishi and Messung, to penetrate more deeply into this fast-growing market.
