Enterprise Software Quarterly Update

Keywords: Enterprise Software, Quarterly Supplier Results, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Latin America, North America.

The worldwide enterprise software market experienced broad-based year-over-year growth in the third quarter of calendar year 2011. The suppliers within this report recorded combined quarterly revenue of $18,562 million, representing an average growth rate of 17 percent. The growth occurred across all revenue types, major application categories, and geographic regions.

The companies surveyed recorded software and service revenues well above those for the prior year. The strong software revenues indicate healthy service revenues for the upcoming quarters. Suppliers reported mixed result from Japan, with JDA software experiencing a negative impact from the crisis, and SAP reporting strong results. The combined revenue growth across suppliers was primarily organically driven, but also influenced by both acquisitions and volatile exchange rate translations resulting from a weakening US dollar. Most notably, the euro increased in value with respect to the US dollar by almost 10 percent, amplifying revenue growth when translated into US dollars. For example, SAP revenue increased by 14 percent in euros, but 25 percent when translated to dollars. Dassault Systèmes, Hexagon, and IFS (SEK) experienced similar currency effects.
