Study Overview

OEM After-Sales Service Driving Market Growth
Field Service Management (FSM) solutions enable organizations to manage the maintenance of complex physical assets that are owned or operated by others.  FSM solutions include the following components and application functionality: Work/Service Order Management, Asset/ Equipment Information Management, MRO Materials Management, Labor Management, Service Contract Management, Reporting & Analytics, and Mobile Application Software.

Increases in maintenance outsourcing and OEM post-sales service to asset intensive manufacturers are primary factors driving growth in the Field Service Management software and services market.  FSM software has enabled these service organizations to more effectively administer the complexities associated with managing an overabundance of information and a large, often geographically dispersed, workforce.  Equipment OEMs are expanding their product offering with post sales services in an effort to increase revenues and offset decreasing product margins.  ARC research has shown that manufacturers are also increasing the use of maintenance outsourcing and facilities management organizations.  This study provides worldwide FSM market shares and market segment breakdowns by industry, revenue type, region, asset type, and customer tier. Five year forecasts for the market and segments are provided for 2008 through 2012.

Strategic Issues
There is considerable overlap in the functionality offered by Field Service Management and Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) applications.  Therefore, a convergence between these markets has occurred. The FSM market is currently composed of ERP suppliers offering an FSM solution, EAM providers expanding into FSM, and best-of-breed FSM providers.  Future mergers and acquisitions are likely to further compromise the distinction between the EAM, FSM, and ERP markets.  This study will help to answer questions, such as:

  • Who are the leading suppliers within this market?
  • How is the market revenue allocated across industries?
  • Which industries offer the greatest potential for revenue growth?
  • What is the revenue breakdown by asset type?
