NAMUR General Assembly 2011: The Future of Automation – Part 2

Keywords: NAMUR, Process Safety, Energy Efficiency, Control Application Strategy, Control System Engineering.

In the second part of this two-part ARC Advisory Group report on the recent NAMUR General Assembly in Bad Neuenahr, Germany, we discuss EEMUA's analysis of the Buncefield disaster, electrical and automation approaches to energy savings, the progress of the convergence of wireless standards, and the successful interfacing of an engineering tool with a DCS.

EEMUA Review of the Buncefield Accident
Andrew Lichnowski, chair of the Instrumentation and Control committee at EEMUA, reported on the results of the criminal investigation into the explosion and fire at the Buncefield fuel storage terminal near London. The explosion could be seen from central London, which is one reason it received so much attention.
