Overview
User Demands for Standards Spawn New Generation of LIMS
Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) are software systems used to capture the structured data generated by analytical R&D, process, quality assurance, and quality control laboratories.  The systems are designed to facilitate the timely and efficient testing of samples and record the pertinent data.

User demands for standard business tools have spawned a new generation of industry and application specific LIMS that are more user friendly, interoperable with other enterprise business systems, and future proof.  Suppliers are employing service based architectures that leverage open source code and maximize the use of standards.  Regardless of the platform employed, LIMS suppliers have heard the message and developed solutions designed to relieve user business pain while reducing total cost of ownership. 

The LIMS market is expected to experience healthy growth as a result of increasingly stringent regulatory requirements, and replacement of paper-based and homegrown LIMS with commercial solutions, as even the smallest laboratories automate their laboratory information systems to capture structured data.  The broadening in the scope of LIMS projects will also lead to increased revenues for suppliers.
