Cyber Security with a Japanese Twist

Keywords: Industrial Control Systems, Cyber Security, Cyber Attack, Stuxnet, CSSC.

In Japan and elsewhere, many people are seriously concerned about the dangers posed by nuclear power plants built right on active faults, and for good reason. However, in many respects, it pays to be equally worried about industrial control systems (ICS) running without appropriate security defenses against cyber-attacks. This is particularly true for control systems installed in those same nuclear power plants, as well as those installed in other critical infrastructure (such as water plants), or even in heavy industrial plants than could "go boom," and/or contaminate the environment with hazardous gases if not maintained under safe control.
