ARC Advisory Group held its 15th Tokyo Forum on July 19, 2013. Of the approximately 200 total attendees, around 40 percent were technology end users and owner-operators, an increase over previous years. Cyber security and safe plant operation were the two major top-ics, but the other sessions covering unique approaches to solving a variety of challenges in the automation and infrastructure industry also attracted large audiences.
At the keynote session, ARC President Andy Chatha revealed his vision (via a video presentation) of globally emerging information-driven manufacturing. He said that enormous amounts of real-time and other data from manufacturing and supply chain systems and internet-connected smart devices are ready to be used, but this requires advanced analytic and visibility tools to provide decision makers across the enterprise with the information they need to make better, more informed decisions to improve production efficiency and reduce downtime. According to Chatha, in the near future, users will be able to access this information from anywhere, at any time using internet-connected computers and/or mobile devices.
