Upstream Takeaways from a Trip to the United Arab Emirates

Keywords: Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (AD-NOC), Maersk Oil, DNV GL, Lamprell, Iranian Sanctions, Gulf Agency Company (GAC), Damen Shipyards, Drydocks World.

ARC Advisory Group recently returned from a trip to the United Arab Emirates that provided us with an opportunity to meet with several companies operating in the oil & gas segment in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

Among other takeaways, we learned about the implications of the possible easing of sanctions on Iran based on recent events in Geneva; the increased focus on employing CO2 injection for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in the region; and the growing demand for both moveable jack-up oil rigs and artificial islands designed to operate in the region's shallow waters. We also had the opportunity to tour several shipyards in the region; see presentations on ADNOC's capacity availability expansion initiative, Statoil's upstream technology initiatives, and some of AMEC's more interesting recent projects; and meet with other companies involved in upstream activities in the region.

ARC plans to explore several of these and other related topics in some depth in future Insights.
