Avcon Controls Implements Siemens Teamcenter and Reduces Manpower by 50 percent

​About the Company: Avcon Controls Pvt. Ltd. (Avcon) is a manufacturer of products, such as solenoid valves, ball and butterfly valves with pneumatic and electric actuators, gas control valves, and regulation products. The company manufactures more than 1,000 products with many variants. The manufacturing facilities are located in Mumbai and Pune. Avcon serves customers in several process control industries including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, food, textiles, and cement.

Business Challenges: Avcon faced increasing competition in the domestic as well as international markets. To retain its competitive edge and not get overwhelmed by the increasing competition, the company was looking to develop quality products and selling them at competitive prices. Armed with this strategy, Avcon decided to fix the loopholes in their processes. Avcon had been utilizing NX™ software from product lifecycle management (PLM) specialist Siemens PLM Software as its product development system. This was shared by multiple designers and engineers across various locations, and this sharing made smooth uninterrupted access an issue. The company sought to better manage the design, engineering, and manufacturing processes. The company was also looking for ways to re-use their design data, optimize the resources more efficiently, and achieve compliance to design regulations.

Solution Implementation: In order to try and close all the above mentioned loopholes and streamline their design processes, Avcon decided to implement Siemens PLM Software – NX. This decision was made with the guidance of DesignTech Systems, a Siemens PLM Software channel partner and major distributor in India. The recommended software included Teamcenter® software for product data management (PDM) and NX Embedded Client. With this solution, Avcon was able to establish a consolidated data management system that ensured an unobstructed functioning of the design, engineering, and manufacturing operations. The company also digitized all the hardcopy drawings. In all, the combination of NX and Teamcenter helped optimize the desired resources, information, and technology.

Achievements: The results of implementing Siemens PLM software were immediate and effective for Avcon. With Teamcenter and NX the company was able to provide a seamless access to all the product data across its various locations, re-use the data, and better manage the processes. The solution reduced the design manpower requirement by 50 percent, while improving security of the intellectual property.  The implementation also saved the time and costs related to the data required for certification. The company was also able to successfully optimize its NX licenses.
