It has been reported that General Electric Company shipped its pre-made bio-pharmaceutical factory to China, which was shipped in 62 containers. It was then assembled within 11 days, and the factory now will be very useful in helping Chinese companies boost the production of new medicines.
Through the factory, Chinese pharmaceutical companies stand to benefit as they will save the cost and time required to get legal approval for the manufacture of new products. Furthermore, it is reported that the factory will also provide medicines at half the cost compared to traditional manufacturing facilities. The factory was developed in consultation with China's Food and Drug Administration.
The setup cost of a traditional pharmaceutical plant starts from $200 million and can go up to $500 million. However, the GE plant can reduce costs by up to 45 percent as per the company's estimates. The cost reduction is because of disposable equipment, which saves the time involved to clean and steam, like traditional stainless steel equipment.
