My colleague Sid Snitkin recently published an interesting report, "
Unidirectional Security Gateways Reduce Risk of Industrial Cyberattacks." Its focus is on enhancing security for industrial control systems, but there are implications for IIoT solutions in industrial applications as well. The report discusses unidirectional security gateway solutions from
Waterfall Security Solutions that are specifically designed to help industrial organizations overcome the weaknesses of conventional perimeter defense strategies.
Arguably, much of the information flow in IIoT applications is one way, so this approach may also be relevant for IIoT. The company is already exploring using this technology to safely connect a power plant control system network to the Smart Grid. The report also discusses ways to use this technology for several bidirectional communications cases.
