Schneider Electric announced the acquisition of a 75 percent stake in Motivair Corporation, a specialist in liquid cooling and advanced thermal management solutions for high-performance computing. The $850 million all-cash deal, expected to close in 2025, will help to better position Schneider Electric to meet the growing demand for more efficient cooling in data centers, especially as demand for liquid cooling is projected to grow rapidly in the coming years.
Motivair, headquartered in Buffalo, NY, is known for cooling supercomputers and has been growing at a double-digit rate year over year. With this acquisition, Schneider Electric further enhances its liquid cooling portfolio, complementing its data center offerings ranging from the grid to microprocessor chips.
Motivair will remain under the leadership of its current President & CEO Rich Whitmore and be integrated into Schneider Electric’s Energy Management business. The remaining 25 percent of Motivair’s equity is set for acquisition by Schneider Electric in 2028.
