Siemens has signed an agreement to acquire Precision Innovations Inc., a privately held electronic design automation (EDA) software company. The acquisition will expand Siemens’ EDA portfolio with AI-powered chip-planning capabilities designed to help semiconductor teams optimize power, performance, and area earlier in the system-on-a-chip (SoC) design process.

Precision Innovations develops EDA software based on the open-source OpenROAD framework to help semiconductor teams evaluate design feasibility, reduce design iterations, and accelerate time-to-market as SoC complexity continues to grow.

The acquisition will strengthen Siemens’ EDA portfolio with AI-driven chip-planning and design-exploration capabilities. These technologies will complement Siemens’ existing digital design and verification solutions by enabling faster feasibility analysis and more informed downstream design decisions.

Precision Innovations is expected to become part of Siemens’ Digital Design Creation software portfolio, complementing its existing digital design and implementation capabilities. The addition will support a more comprehensive digital workflow spanning architecture, implementation, and silicon lifecycle management for SoCs.

Precision Innovations’ solutions are used by semiconductor and technology companies across digital design and verification workflows. By combining these technologies with its broader EDA portfolio, Siemens aims to help customers address growing design complexity, shorten development cycles, and improve engineering productivity.

Precision Innovations was founded in San Diego, California, in 2019. The company’s mission is to make advanced hardware design more accessible by addressing barriers related to cost, specialized expertise, and design uncertainty.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close during the third quarter of calendar year 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed.
