Onkar has been with NFC since 2002 and has worked on maintenance, development of power supply, and control of various high vacuum electrical melting, welding furnaces, which are critical in this field. He played an important role in setting up the 250T melting plant of NFC at Kota, Rajasthan. His expertise includes control of various topologies for highly dynamic loads of high current like in Vacuum Arc Re-melting (VAR), Plasma Electron Beam Melting as well as high voltage like in Electron Beam Welding. He developed a modular melting power supply for VAR Furnace, where modules of different capacities and topologies can run in parallel, resulting in substantial reduction of capacity augmentation cost. He holds a B.E. (Electrical Engineering), Jadavpur University, Kolkata and a One-year certificate training in Nuclear Technologies, BARC Training School, Hyderabad.
