11/2022 DTC Global: Operational Data Architecture for ESG

Effective environmental, social, and governance (ESG) data management, particularly for energy, emissions, and waste, is increasingly directly related to positive business performance. Improvements in cost reduction, top-line growth, competitive differentiation, and worker safety and productivity can now be quantifiably connected to the implementation of successful ESG initiatives. Additionally, investment firms are committed to using ESG success to determine when and where to shift trillions of dollars in capital.

Despite the importance of ESG, many companies continue to be challenged in identifying and executing sound sustainability strategies. Struggles with cross-functional collaboration and data management abound.  Additionally, the complexity of ESG issues require organizations to manage both internal and external factors, often in new ways.

In this month’s Digital Transformation Council, ESG data practitioners will discuss how to build sound data strategies to support effective ESG initiatives and reporting. Discussion will touch on identifying quality data versus quantity, building effective teams and workflows, architecting technology and systems, and managing changing regulatory requirements.
