Client’s Challenge: A global Indian conglomerate faced a major material non-conformance report from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) third-party assurance team. The conglomerate with its numerous remote project sites and office campuses across all its Business Units, struggled with aggregating its Scope-1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions data on time and with required accuracy. The problem was compounded as all the data related to consumption of electricity, fuels, renewables, water, waste, etc. was manually collected through email communication and then arranged and reported through spreadsheets only at the Business Unit level. A common view-pane visibility in near real time, at the Group-level from a single-source of truth was not possible due to legacy methods. Given L&T Technology Services' (LTTS) extensive experience in designing, building, and implementing multi-site energy & sustainability programs, the client requested it for a complete turnkey design & 
implementation of a group-level monitoring and reporting solution titled “EARTH.”
The Solution: LTTS framed the methodology to implement the sustainability monitoring and reporting solution as an end-to-end turnkey implementation starting from efficient automated and standardized and governed manual data collection, effective aggregation, and process-driven validation for all GRI-based sustainability indicators of 800 sites in a single Energy & Sustainability (ESM) platform hosted on Microsoft Azure. The pilot implementation concluded with 3 sites across different Business Units, which demonstrated practicality as well as user-friendliness to capture relevant data points and reporting custom visualizations across different levels of personas on a need-to-know basis and thereby maintaining accuracy, integrity and timeliness of input data and output dashboards for sustainability reporting.
Key Achievement: LTTS has successfully rolled out the solution to multiple projects across India and demonstrated leadership in both Solution Component identification and Site Integration to achieve the following results:
• Compliance to Sustainability Assurance Guidelines and National (BSE, NE) & International Standards (STBi).
• Granular data availability: Site-wise monitoring and tracking of energy, water & waste parameters.
• Achieved better benchmarking with KPI monitoring, automated alerts and reports generation.
• Sustainability improvements: Identify energy and water savings projects/initiatives with complete project governance mechanisms.
• GHG scope strategy development: Identify and categorize project sites, facilities, workshops, yards, and office campuses based on their emission intensity to support strategy development and focused interventions for emission management.
Thanks to positive feedback from the client after the pilot implementation, LTTS has till date scaled the solution roll-out to cover 80+ more sites and is poised to complete the remaining projects within the next 18 months. This defining and pivotal project has established LTTS as the preferred sustainability solution partner over the long term.
