At ARC's European Industry Forum 2016, Wim Hultink of the strategic design of operational technology at FrieslandCampina, will introduce us to the Manufacturing Operations Management software (MOMS) strategy introduced at the.
FrieslandCampina supplies consumer products such as dairy-based beverages, infant nutrition, cheese and desserts in many European countries, in Asia and in Africa. Products are also supplied to professional customers, including cream and butter products to bakeries and catering companies. FrieslandCampina also supplies ingredients and half-finished products to manufacturers of infant nutrition, the food industry and the pharmaceutical sector around the world. On July 29th 2014 a big fire destroyed large parts of the cheese factory in Gerkesklooster, one of the 12 cheese production and packaging locations at FrieslandCampina. The cheese processing capacity of FrieslandCampina was reduced by almost 10%, so there was a great need for a quick re-build and ramp-up of the plant.
Based on the MOMS strategy as set out in 2013 by FrieslandCampina, Wonderware MES building blocks were designed and mapped on the design of the new factory, resulting in a very high automation of the new production and warehouse facilities. Early 2015 FrieslandCampina became aware that due to two other mainstream projects the MES solutions should be more templated and thus re-usable. These two projects were the global SAP standardization, called Summit which also required new information and thus functionality on the level 3 MES systems, and on the other hand there was the Corporate Internal Audit ("CIA") that requested compliance to internal rules of legacy MES systems.
In this presentation FrieslandCampina will share their MOMS strategy, especially the demarcation between SAP and MES, illustrate how this strategy was applied to the rebuild of the Gerkesklooster Cheese factory and how this combined with Summit and the CIA led to the setting of new standards for MES.
