Successful pursuit of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions requires IT-OT integration. Information technology (IT) powerhouses such as Microsoft, Intel, Cisco, and Dell have been aggressively approaching the automation and control space, seeking partnerships with leading operational technology (OT) suppliers. At the 18th ARC Industry Forum in Tokyo, Japan in July, Dell revealed its extensive IIoT programs to the more than 220 participants from both the discrete and process automation communities. Dell's well-received presentation focused on predictive maintenance solutions.

Why Dell for IIoT? Minoru Koyama, Japan Country Manager & Senior Sales Director of Dell, addressed this question in his introductory remarks.
By leveraging its strong partnership with Intel, Dell entered the IIoT market in 2015, developing a new line of purpose-built edge gateways and embedded PCs and assigning the company's OEM Solutions team to handle business development. (Michael Dell created this team 18 years ago, which has had a presence in Japan since 2009.)
According to Mr. Koyama, industrial OEMs can gain speed, efficiencies, and global scale by leveraging Dell's technology expertise and global supply chain, services, and partnerships with domain experts to be able to focus on their own competencies to further enhance competitive ad-vantage.
