Overall, the worldwide market for motion control systems grew in 2013 and 2014 and should sustain steady growth throughout the forecast period according to the new ARC Advisory Group study.
New Machine Controllers Ease IntegrationThe machine builders are gravitating to highly integrated solutions and networked architectures. ARC’s research indicates a move away from using wider-purpose programmable automation controller (PAC) platforms toward dedicated machine controller platforms that offer unified networking, embedding of algorithms, mechatronic simulation, and vision on an integrated platform. A family of machine controllers offered by the major automation suppliers are making it increasingly difficult for component suppliers to compete in the motion centric machine automation applications.
Strongest Recovery Expected in Asia and AmericasAsia will remain strong as government stimulus packages in Japan and China will lift these markets. In North America, the continuing increase in re-shoring of manufacturing will create a strong demand for highly automated machinery. Asia and Latin America will account for the largest growth over the forecast period due to the rapidly increasing machinery builders in these regions. Machine builders in these regions are becoming increasingly competent in design and development.
