Hitachi Completes Purchase of AnsaldoBreda and Ansaldo STS from Finmeccanica

Finmeccanica and Hitachi announce the closing of transactions relating to the acquisition by Hitachi of rolling stock provider AnsaldoBreda S.p.A, with the exclusion of some revamping activities and certain residual contracts, and Finmeccanica's entire economic interest in rail signaling provider Ansaldo STS S.p.A., equal to approximately 40 percent of its issued share capital.

GE Completes Acquisition of Alstom Power and Grid Businesses

GE announced that it has completed the acquisition of Alstom's power and grid businesses. The company reached an agreement in 2014 to purchase Alstom's power and grid businesses for €12.35 billion. Adjusting for the joint ventures announced in June 2014 (renewables, grid, and nuclear), changes in the deal structure, price adjustments for remedies, net cash at close, and including the effects of currency, the ultimate purchase price is €9.7B (approximately $10.6B). 

Schneider Electric Reaches an Agreement to Sell Juno Lighting to Acuity Brands

Schneider Electric announces that it has reached an agreement to sell Juno Lighting, LLC ("Juno") to Acuity Brands, Inc., one of the world's leading providers of innovative lighting solutions.

Juno is a North American supplier, specialized in recessed and track lighting fixtures, in both residential and commercial sectors. The business generated revenues of $230m and an EBITDA of $32m in 2014. Juno is currently consolidated under the Buildings and Partner business of Schneider Electric.

Intel to Sell Stonesoft Network Security Unit to Raytheon-Websense

Intel is selling Stonesoft, the Finnish cybersecurity company it bought two years ago for $389 million, to Raytheon-Websense. The unit is known for its computer firewall products.

This would seem to signify a significant realignment for Intel, which started building out its security software portfolio in earnest when it paid nearly $7.7 billion for McAfee five years ago. Earlier this year it rebranded the McAfee unit as Intel Security.

GE Boosts Well Intervention Capabilities with Advantec Acquisition

GE Oil & Gas has agreed to acquire Norway's Advantec, a provider of subsea intervention equipment and services, to boost the company's capabilities to offer cost-efficient products and services. The purchase is part of GE Oil & Gas' efforts to address the challenges faced by its customers operating the growing number of mature subsea fields, and the company's broader strategy to expand its position as a leading provider of subsea production equipment and services solutions for full life-of-field management.

IBM Plans to Acquire The Weather Company’s Product and Technology Businesses; Extends Power of Watson to the Internet of Things

IBM announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire The Weather Company's B2B, mobile, and cloud-based web properties, including WSI, weather.com, Weather Underground, and The Weather Company brand. The TV segment – The Weather Channel – will not be acquired by IBM, but will license weather forecast data and analytics from IBM under a long-term contract.

Siemens Wind Power Inks Contract With Axiscades Engineering Technologies

​Axiscades Engineering Technologies has entered into a five-year strategic agreement with Siemens Wind Power to set up an overseas development center for the latter in Hyderabad, India, with an investment of about $3 million. This center will start with 50 engineers and will scale up to 300 engineers over the next three years. Siemens Wind Power is a leading manufacturer of wind turbines employing more than 12,000 people.

ABB and Microsoft Join Forces to Launch Next-Generation Electric Vehicle Charging Services Platform

ABB and Microsoft Corp. announced the worldwide availability of a new electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging services platform. Combining ABB's leading EV charging stations with Microsoft's Azure cloud-based services will ensure stability, global scalability and advanced management features for ABB customers. The collaboration will also take advantage of machine learning and predictive analytic capabilities to drive future innovations.
