Extreme Networks has come to an agreement to acquire Zebra Technologies' wireless LAN business. This acquisition enables Extreme Networks to further provide its customers with the networking solutions and services required to run their business.

Extreme Networks' product portfolio spans wireless, switching, network management, cloud, analytics, and security.  Adding new wireless LAN solutions to the existing wireless LAN technology enables Extreme Networks to provide users with a full portfolio of end-to-end, wired and wireless software-driven networking solutions.

A part of this acquisition is Zebra's full wireless LAN portfolio, which will become a part of the existing ExtremeWireless product line. This includes a series of new access point (AP) offerings, including Zebra's wall plate and tri-radio APs to provide versatility and agility across a variety of vertical markets.

This acquisition also significantly expands Extreme's wireless LAN security offering with the addition of Zebra's wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS) solution. The vendor agnostic AirDefense Security & Compliance solution provides 24×7 wireless monitoring tools to enable IT staff to identify network attacks and vulnerabilities, and to instantly terminate the connection to rogue devices.
