Lessons Learned from EAM Users

ARC Advisory Group and Plant Services magazine recently conducted a survey to gain a better perspective on enterprise asset management (EAM) in industrial facilities. In this ARC report, we explore insights gained on specific opportunities for how users can achieve incremental improvements with predictive maintenance, mobile devices, and inventory management solutions.

Managing Asset Management
The user survey that ARC performed in conjunction with Plant Services magazine helped us identify current trends in enterprise asset management (EAM). The research yielded strategies for taking EAM systems from reactive record-keeping tools to proactive planning and execution systems.

Survey Approach and Responses
ARC designed and hosted the web survey. Obtaining respondents involved emails by Plant Services and ARC for participation in the survey. As an incentive to participant, respondents received the final report.

Between December 2014 and January 2015, we received 141 valid responses, which were subsequently used in the analysis. Fifty-eight per-cent of the respondents have roles in maintenance with the remaining in engineering or management. Not surprisingly for an English language survey, nearly half represented North America and the rest were evenly distributed in the rest of the world. For industries, the asset-intensive chemical, petrochemical, oil & gas, and military sectors were well represented. A surprise involved the strong interest from food & beverage (13.5 percent of responses). This suggests that FDA regulations are starting to impact maintenance practices in that industry.
