Project Success Story

Background: The pandemic significantly disrupted the global entertainment industry, halting film and show productions and closing movie theaters. This led to a surge in demand for over-the-top (OTT) streaming services, which provided consumers with flexible access to a wide range of content. Although the trend towards OTT consumption was already growing, the pandemic accelerated this shift, presenting new challenges for leading OTT companies.

LTTSCustomer and Challenge: The customer is a leading cloud-managed streaming infrastructure provider, headquartered in India, and enables OTT media companies deliver simpler, cost effective, rapidly scalable, and stream-ready content. They help address the diverse requirements of the different media houses, whose main content, trailers, metadata, subtitles, and other related features are often made available in multiple formats.

Due to the sheer volume of the task, manual processes were labor-intensive and time consuming, resulting in major inefficiencies. The customer sought solutions that would help streamline and automate its streaming enablement services, including metadata retrieval and transcoding. L&T Technology Services (LTTS) was onboarded to leverage its deep cloud and DevOps knowledge and experience in designing a solution that would enable a resource-efficient operational paradigm.

LTTS’ Approach: LTTS’ global team of media and entertainment technology engineers analyzed the customer’s existing operational paradigm and formulated a systematic technology deployment framework. The analysis revealed that the key requirement for the customer was a digital solution that would enable easy video-on-demand (VoD) asset packaging and distribution in terms of content, optional transcoding capabilities, and metadata extraction, among other features.

Leveraging cloud-native microservices-based architecture, the first phase in this collaboration involved enabling:

  • A secured, multi-tenant SaaS platform on AWS
  • Content and metadata ingestion from content providers
  • Content processing with optional transcoders on cloud infrastructure
  • A-2-A (Any to Any) specification conversions for content and metadata
  • Pre-integration with relevant OTT partner specifications
  • Modular, event-driven microservices architecture
  • Scalable multi-tenant Kubernetes deployments
  • Multi-stakeholder role management
  • B2B integrations with media solutions

Business Benefits: LTTS’ team of engineers and technologists helped the customer achieve:

  • A more streamlined content management paradigm across acquisition, validation, transformation, normalization, and broadcasting
  • Faster content distribution on priority level basis
  • Siloed transcoding processes for each content streaming platform
  • Enhanced point-to-point quality control of assets during the pre-broadcast phase
  • Efficient workflows and state management as per the end customer profiles
