Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S announced a 174-MW order for MidAmerican Energy Co's 2-GW Wind XI project in Iowa.
Vestas unveiled a conditional deal to supply the turbines for the 2-GW complex in June last year. It now said the utility has placed a firm and unconditional order for 100 units of the V110-2.0 MW turbine for the project.
Under the contract, which includes previously purchased production tax credit (PTC)-qualifying components, Vestas will supply and commission the turbines, and will also service them under a five-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM5000) agreement. Vestas will make the machines at its factories in Colorado and will start deliveries in the second quarter 2018.
The Wind XI project is made up of a number of sites that will come online between 2017 and 2019. When completed, the project will allow MidAmerican, a unit of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, to generate about 90% of its retail load from wind.
