Group Director, Transportation Management
Ryder System

Mark is one of those rare executives; he has spent his whole career at Ryder Systems.  Starting as a coordinator, he has risen to the Group Director of Ryder System’s managed transportation practice.  In managed transportation, a shipper contracts with a third party to plan and execute their moves for them.  In other words, instead of having internal planners plan and execute moves, those planners are employed by the managed transportation services (MTS) supplier, but work on the shipper’s behalf.  Doing transportation planning on behalf of other companies requires the use of an advanced transportation management system, often involves the MTS provider being integral in the carrier strategic procurement process, and can involve freight benchmarking and other consulting services.   Mark’s unit has a network of 3100 carriers, who carry 14 million shipments through four global control towers.  They manage $6.7 billion in freight spend annually.
