Summary
Dassault Systèmes (3DS) held its annual analysts day in December 2020 for its ENOVIA brand collaborative innovation and business planning software. 3DS also featured NETVIBES, its brand for information intelligence software. Stéphane Declée, CEO of ENOVIA, and Morgan Zimmermann, CEO of NETVIBES presented updates for both 3DS brands to the analyst community.
The primary theme of 3DS was the integrated functions and solutions of both ENOVIA and NETVIBES. These enable business-driven, collaborative product development throughout the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. Mr. Declée pointed out that together ENOVIA and NETVIBES provides customers with a way to “plan their definition of success while revealing information intelligence.” The combined solutions produce a virtual twin experience of the science of 3D modeling and virtual simulation with data science, AI and ML, in an integrated collaborative environment for product development and business planning.
The combined ENOVIA/NETVIBES environment is designed to make analytics work across a model-based enterprise. The overall strategy is to leverage these 3DS brands across the product development lifecycle of specific industries (aerospace & defense, transportation & mobility, life sciences, industrial machinery, etc.). ENOVIA focuses on collaborative product development, enterprise planning, and total quality assurance. NETVIBES focuses on global sourcing, big data analytics, and the value network.
Customer adoption of ENOVIA was strong in 2019 and continued well into 2020 despite a global pandemic. With over 10,000 customers overall, 88 percent of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is sold to mid-sized companies.
ENOVIA: Collaborative Business-driven Product Development
For companies to maintain sustainable innovation across their product development lifecycle, they must move at the speed of business, where acceleration and agility are critical. They need a product development platform that allows them to plan, model, and manufacture their products while being able to listen to their customers and the market, run their operations, and ultimately release their products on time and on budget. Today, products are created with a Dev Ops mindset. Companies need a platform that keeps all the organizations and stakeholders connected, along with their data, processes, devices, ideas, and IP.
ENOVIA and NETVIBES, powered by the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, provide the tools and solutions companies need to navigate across the product development lifecycle. Users start by planning product strategy, leveraging data and information seamlessly accessible on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. This enables them to build a contextual design based on informational intelligence that reveals what the customer wants, the industry trends, and what the competition is doing.
Next, users can architect the entire development lifecycle from early definition to final validation and market introduction. Architecting product development is especially important in systems engineering where multiple engineering disciplines - including mechanical, electrical, and software design - must be integrated and functionally validated. This is followed by initiating the engineering definition, configuring the engineering design, and completing the overall multi-discipline systems design. This brings into play MCAD solutions like CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, ECAD solutions, and even CAE and simulation. Next comes the final release of engineering with all parts and components, specifications, materials, and final BOM. After release of product design, manufacturing and product service definitions are configured in conjunction with 3DS DELMIA manufacturing planning.
ENOVIA Portfolio Disciplines Cover the Product Development Lifecycle
The ENOVIA portfolio can be visualized as two major groups of solutions: Product Configuration and Business Modeling & Planning. Within these groups, eight unique disciplines are built on top of the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform. The Product Configuration solution set includes configured product development, IP reuse optimization, 3D product intelligence, and semiconductor and SOC design collaboration. The Business Modeling and Planning solution set includes product portfolio planning, program and project management, quality and certification, and enterprise modeling and execution.
The value proposition of ENOVIA and NETVIBES powered by the 3DEXPERIENCE platform brings together comprehensive product development collaboration and data intelligence to the design/build/operate/maintain product lifecycle.
Conclusion
The 3DS strategy behind the combination of ENOVIA and NETVIBES on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform appears to provide some significant benefits. It connects product development users to the rest of the enterprise, and their respective design environments into the innovation experience. This helps enhance the overall design process. It streamlines the engineering-to-manufacturing process while providing information intelligence needed to improve project execution. This will not only allow 3DS to remain competitive, but also prove to be a compelling transformation strategy for its customers.
