In her presentation at the 2020 ARC Industry Forum in Orlando, Kathy Treankler, CEO of Trinks, a company that engineers and manufactures hydraulic presses for other discrete manufacturers, focused on how her 80+ year old company uses augmented reality and other digital technologies to capture and transfer internal domain knowledge to younger employees to complement their inherent digital skills. This helped the company reduce its internal engineering times by a factor of three. Externally, Ms. Treankler explained how Trinks leveraged IT/OT convergence (including more standardized, modular programs) to help one if its customers upgrade its older presses to modern digital controls. This enabled that customer to implement real-time KPIs to be able to quickly identify off-spec parts. According to Ms. Treankler, "It's important to really listen to and engage with your customers to learn what they truly need."
