The Downstream & Petrochemical Asia 2014 conference/exhibition in Singapore, October 29-30, was just one of the energy-related events of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW). SIEW takes place each October in Singapore.
Related events includes the Asia Clean Energy Summit, Gas Asia Summit, Singapore Energy Summit, and a number of themed roundtables on topics such as Electricity Market Reform, Clean Coal Technology, Cyber Security in the Energy Sector, and LNG Industrial Trends in China.
The conference presentations were mainly provided by Asian refining and petrochemical producing companies, along with equipment suppliers to the downstream sector. For the exhibition, equipment suppliers and EPCs made up the majority of participants.
Silver sponsor, ABB, was the only significant automation company in evidence at the show. Other (Bronze) sponsors included Alfa Laval, Foster Wheeler, Johnson Matthey Process Technologies, Sulzer, and Tasweeq.
Asia Spearheads Global Growth
With the recent drops in crude oil prices, International Energy Agency (IEA) senior market analyst Toril Bosoni provided a useful and topical assessment of the current global oil & gas market.
Benchmark crude prices are at a four-year low as a result of rising Libyan and Iraqi exports, booming US output, and declining demand. Non-OPEC supply grew at its highest rate in 30 years in September, and global demand growth is at a five-year low.
