The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) is still the premier trade show for the oil & gas industry in North America, with a large international presence and a huge range of vendors and solution providers from across the industry. These range from national oil companies, like Saudi Aramco to shipbuilders, equipment manufacturers, engineering firms, and automation and controls providers. With the depressed environment surrounding oil and gas capital expenditures and continued lower oil prices, ARC Advisory Group was eager to see what the mood and crowd would be like for 2015. Attendance, while somewhat smaller than the record-breaking numbers in 2013 and 2014, was still around 95,000 attendees. OTC claims that this year's show set a record for exhibitor space with 2,682 companies exhibiting, up from 2,568 in 2014.
Participation by the automation suppliers was somewhat less than last year. Some exhibitors consolidated their booths, so they had bigger booths featuring all their subsidiary companies, but less on the automation side of things. Most major automation companies had a presence this year, including ABB, Emerson, Endress+Hauser, GE, Honeywell, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Rockwell Automation, Yokogawa, and several others. Some companies made every effort to impress and have a lot of equipment on display from sensors and field devices to control systems and operations management software. Others opted for more of a high-level solutions approach, with heavy emphasis on open meeting spaces and monitors highlighting areas of solution expertise.
