Takeaways from ACHEMA 2015

This year's edition of the triennial ACHEMA trade show in Frankfurt, Germany, attracted more than 166,000 visitors and 3813 exhibitors from 56 countries. For the first time, more than half of the exhibitors came from outside Germany.

This trade show for chemical engineering and the process industries takes place every three years, or what are referred to as "ACHEMA Years" in the industry. The relatively long time between shows seems to contribute to the continuing success of the event. Even at the height of the financial crisis in 2009, exhibitor and visitor numbers remained almost un-changed. Many suppliers plan product introductions to coincide with the show.

First organized in 1920, the ACHEMA show was traditionally a platform to present equipment and devices for the chemical industry. Its scope widened over the decades, including more and more processing sectors and accommodating the rapidly developing technologies. Today, the show covers the whole array of offerings for the processing industries, from mechanical processing to pumps and valves, packaging, and laboratory equipment to engineering, instrumentation, control and automation technologies.

Since the demise of the Interkama trade show, ACHEMA is the only fair left in Europe for the process industries. Despite its focus on the chemical and pharma industries, the fair attracts users from other process indus-tries as well.
