Schneider Electric has announced the launch of the Modicon™ Edge I/O NTS, an Input/Output (I/O) system designed for data aggregation in industrial environments. The latest addition to its distributed IP20 I/O system, Modicon Edge I/O NTS supports a wide range of applications across production machinery, discrete manufacturing, and continuous process industries.
Designed for machine builders, system integrators, and industrial end users, Modicon Edge I/O NTS can be deployed in industries such as:
Machinery, packaging, and food & beverage
Life sciences and water & wastewater management
Mining, minerals & metals, and critical infrastructure
Data centers, energy, and chemicals
Modicon Edge I/O NTS is built to help address both current industrial I/O needs and future challenges. It uses open Ethernet protocols to connect with various devices and architectures, embedding data intelligence to enhance performance, availability, and cybersecurity.
Key Features and Capabilities
Secure, Open Communication: Utilizes OPC UA technology for secure data exchange and interoperability across different Ethernet protocols.
Scalability and Flexibility: Allows customization of I/O islands to accommodate various industrial applications within a compact design.
Reduced Downtime: Features environmentally hardened options, hot swap capabilities, and integrated diagnostics to minimize Mean Time to Repair and unplanned downtime.
Simplified Deployment: Supports adaptive tools for easier design, wiring, and startup, reducing time to market for new machines and processes.
Cybersecurity Compliance: Helps to ensure secure access to industrial data, enabling users to further optimize efficiency, sustainability, and operational agility.
According to Craig Resnick, Vice President, ARC Advisory Group, “The market for distributed I/O is being driven by digital transformation, which is rapidly increasing demand for additional manufacturing data to support analytics, AI, virtualization, asset management and predictive maintenance, the industrial internet of things (IIoT), digital twins and simulation, augmented and virtual reality, and IT and OT convergence. However, distributed I/O should be designed on OPC UA over TSN, all while meeting vigorous industrial standards and certifications regarding temperature, harsh, severe and hazardous operating environment, vibration, and electromagnetic compatibility. Schneider Electric’s new Modicon Edge I/O NTS next generation distributed IP20 I/O system meets these market and design requirements and provides its users with a solution that will help to accelerate their digital transformation journey."
