SUNYA Energy Fidelis' AtmosClear has announced a partnership with Microsoft to deliver carbon removal services. AtmosClear is building a carbon capture facility at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge in Louisiana. The plant will utilize bio-based materials like sugarcane bagasse and forest management trimmings to generate clean energy while capturing 680,000 metric tons of biogenic carbon dioxide annually for permanent storage or use as a feedstock in producing low-carbon natural gas or other synthetic fuels.
The contract with Microsoft marks a significant moment for the high-quality engineered carbon removal market. Durable, high-quality solutions from experienced developers like Fidelis are essential to Microsoft’s goal of becoming Carbon Negative by 2030.
Microsoft has agreed to purchase the offtake of 6.75 million metric tons of engineered carbon removal over 15 years from bioenergy carbon capture and storage—the largest deal for permanent carbon removal to date.
