Moxa Inc., a supplier of industrial communications and networking technology, has joined The Open Group's Open Process Automation Forum (OPAF). This partnership underscores Moxa's commitment to collaborating with other industry leaders to advance open, standards-based networking and enhance connectivity for more open and interoperable process control systems in industrial automation. The Open Process Automation Forum noted that Moxa's extensive expertise in industrial communications and networking, along with its broad experience in developing a wide range of products for the industrial automation ecosystem, will be valuable contributions to the development of future open industry standards.
Moxa has a history of supporting open architecture initiatives, including the OPC Field Level Communications Initiative and its UA Field eXchange standard. These efforts aim to create a unified industrial Ethernet infrastructure capable of transferring data and connecting devices from the field to the cloud within an open control system environment.
The Open Process Automation Forum is responsible for developing and maintaining the O-PAS standard, an open framework for process automation systems that emphasizes critical attributes such as safety, reliability, security, and interoperability. Moxa's experience in developing security-hardened solutions through a secure development life cycle certified to IEC 62443-4-1 positions the company to contribute to the ongoing evolution of the O-PAS standard by integrating secure-by-design practices into the standard and its implementations.
