SGS and Baker Hughes, a GE company, are partnering on the sensor and data-driven maintenance of industrial equipment.  A Strategic Alliance Agreement (SAA) between the two companies enables the joint use of real-time software for Predictive Corrosion Management (PCM).  The solution developed by BHGE is designed to predict the corrosion of industrial equipment based on sensor data.  Plant operators can use the PCM software to help to better monitor and control their facilities by leveraging, for example, sensors connected via the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) as well as using ultrasonic sensor technology and advanced analytics.  This results in enabling earlier actions to be taken to protect against corrosion based on this real-time data.

PCM monitors temperatures and measures wall thickness using Rightrax PM ultrasonic sensors installed in critical locations such as pipes, tanks and containers.  The solution uses advanced analysis capabilities that enable real-time analysis of health data previously collected through manual inspections.  While PCM is critical to oil and gas downstream, petrochemical and upstream plant operators, it can also help other industries at risk from corrosion-related risks.  This enables PCM to be a tool for asset owners initiating programs that help to improve asset reliability and integrity while maximizing operational reliability and extending asset life.

As part of the agreement, joint services for PCM will be established focusing on inspections and maintenance technologies.  SGS brings its many years of inspection experience and its global network of companies, while BHGE brings its  technological know-how.

SGS is a global independent testing company that undertakes the visual inspection and non-destructive testing of large-scale industrial plants both during operation and regular breaks.  Through these services, the Group contributes to the asset integrity management of industrial plants. BHGE also supports owners of industrial plants with technological solutions and services. SGS will work with BHGE’s Inspection Technologies division, which is a part of the Measurement & Controls segment of BHGE that has supplied SGS with non-destructive testing (NDT) technology for many years.
