Emerson Adds Native Ethernet Connectivity to Coriolis Transmitter, Making It Easier to Gain Process Insight

Emerson Process Management has upgraded the Micro Motion Model 5700 transmitter with a native Ethernet connection to improve connectivity and functionality, allowing for easier access to measurement information.

The native Ethernet upgrade includes dual redundant Ethernet ports, directly integrated in the device with no need for extra converters or adapters. The dual port architecture means multiple devices can be installed in a variety of configurations, minimizing wiring and switch needs for space and cost savings.

ODVA to Develop Standards for a Common Industrial Cloud Interface

In its media briefing held at the Hannover Messe, ODVA announced a significant new area of technical work to develop standards for the gateway and interface technology needed to transport data between the cloud and CIP-enabled industrial control systems (ICS) populated with EtherNet/IP and DeviceNet devices. Ultimately, this work will result in The Common Industrial Cloud Interface Specification, a major new addition to ODVA's technology portfolio.

Siemens Expands Communications Processor for Open Data Transmission in Automation Industry

Siemens has expanded its Simatic S7-400 controller to include the CP 443-1 OPC UA communications processor. The processor uses the standardized OPC UA interface for the fast, direct exchange of data between automation components from different manufacturers. Users can install the CP 443-1 OPC UA as both a client and as a server, for example, to link a Simatic S7-400 to ERP systems. It is mainly used in Simatic S7-400 applications, e.g. in the automotive, oil & gas as well as food industries.

Siemens’ New Rugged Industrial Notebooks Designed for Efficient Automation Engineering

Siemens has equipped the latest generation of its rugged, ready-to-run industrial notebooks with a multitude of practical functions for mobile engineering. The Simatic Field PG M5 programming device has been designed with pre-installed Simatic TIA Portal (Totally Integrated Automation) engineering software for fast and efficient configuration, commissioning, service, and maintenance, as well as for engineering work in technical bureaus.

Siemens Supplies GSU Transformers to NTPC in South India

Siemens Limited started dispatch of the largest-ever "Made in India" single-phase Generator Step-Up (GSU) Transformer of rating 315 MVA, 23.5kV/420kV for installation at NTPC's Kudgi Super Thermal Power Station in Bijapur, Karnataka. This transformer is an essential component of the Power Station, which once operational will boost the high capacity power generation for the southern states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Kerala. NTPC has ordered 10 units of these GSU transformers from Siemens.

Siemens Launches Planning and Simulation Tool for Profinet Networks

Siemens is launching a new software tool for the design and simulation of Profinet automation networks. The Sinetplan network planner is aimed at plant designers, constructors and operators, and supports them from the planning stage through commissioning to the operation of a Profinet communication network. To ensure subsequent operational reliability and to avoid problems during commissioning, the network is designed with a suitable topological structure at the planning stage, and any possible bottlenecks caused by peak loads, for example, are simulated.

L&T Infotech Automates Back Office Processes in a Global Bank

Banks with predominantly manual processing in the back office face a multitude of challenges. The recent spike in regulatory requirements around capital and mode of operations for global banks has reduced Return on Equity (RoE) to very low levels. At the same time, inflationary pressures around fixed cost base that is typical of many banks' back office processing keep reducing RoE year-on-year. In addition, inherent processing capacity constraints exist in highly manual operations, where matching scale of operations dynamically to the revenue scenario becomes near impossible.
