Agile Robots and Google DeepMind have entered a strategic research partnership aimed at advancing the application of foundation AI models in industrial robotics. The collaboration focuses on integrating Google DeepMind’s Gemini Robotics models with Agile Robots’ industrial hardware platform to support the development of robots capable of adaptive behavior and reasoning in real-world environments. The partnership reflects the continuing shift toward "physical intelligence," where AI models are embedded in physical automation systems rather than as a separate software layer.
The initiative combines Agile Robots’ established robotics deployments with Google DeepMind’s work on large-scale AI models designed for embodied intelligence. By jointly deploying robots, collecting operational data, and iterating on model training, the partners are pursuing a closed-loop development approach in which real-world performance feeds continuous model improvement.
Initial efforts will concentrate on industrial and manufacturing use cases where scalability and adaptability are critical. These sectors face persistent labor constraints and increasing pressure to handle greater product variability, shorter lifecycles, and more complex workflows. As a result, demand is shifting away from rigid, task-specific automation toward more flexible robotic systems that can be reconfigured through software and learning rather than mechanical redesign.
