Company and Product News

Belden Inc., a leading global supplier of network infrastructure and digitization solutions, announced new products designed to provide secure, high-quality data orchestration and management in critical applications.  Data orchestration is the process of bringing people, devices, and functionalities together, removing silos to combine, organize, and make data available across a network to the people and devices that need it. Data management involves the administration and structure of devices and data.

Wi-Fi 6 for Rail Applications

Data Orchestration and Management

Uninterrupted communications between trains and trackside systems are essential to promote safety and maximize uptime. Highly reliable Wi-Fi 6 connections, designed for train-to-ground applications requiring low latency or high bandwidth, result in fewer dropped connections. The new Hirschmann IT Dragonfly DAP847 Railway Wi-Fi 6 Radios provide connectivity for train-to-ground communications, enabling high-performance roaming and high data throughput that provides continuous connectivity, supports both passenger and system communications, and meets the specific train-to-ground communications requirements of European rail applications.

The new radios feature a long product life with a ruggedized design, conformal coating, and relatively small size that meets the demands of onboard and wayside applications.  Plug-and-play deployment with the Dragonfly Access Point Virtual Controller (DAC), provides easy and convenient access point management.

Enterprise Managed Switches

Hirschmann IT MAMMUTHUS (MTS) Enterprise Managed Switches are designed to deliver IT performance, reliability, security, and functionality across multiple industries at a competitive price point, allowing users to facilitate seamless IT/OT convergence using Hirschmann equipment.  MTS devices embody characteristics from both IT and OT networks, with comprehensive switching features and advanced routing functions to seamlessly integrate across the two domains.

Some of the MTS features include:

  • Seamless Integration: Equipment from a single manufacturer ensures smooth data flow and reduces compatibility issues during IT/OT integration.

  • Scalability: Easy-to-use network expansion and future-proofing capabilities accommodate changing production needs.

  • Unified Management: A single application simplifies network administration, enabling faster fault detection and response.

  • Efficient Support: Access to manufacturer-specific expertise ensures timely assistance and resources for faster issue resolution and maintenance.

  • Robust Security: Consistent security policies and rapid threat response.

New ProSoft Modbus Routers

The new ProSoft Technology DIN rail Modbus Routers enable EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, and Modbus RTU connectivity for field devices. Users can send device data to a processor or SCADA system to monitor industrial processes. The Modbus Router/B provides intelligent data routing between Logix controllers/PLCs and Modbus devices via Modbus RTU (RS232 / RS485) or Modbus TCP. The Router can operate as either a Modbus Client (Scheduled Mode) or Modbus Server (Reactive Mode). Modbus Client mode can communicate with up to 100 Modbus Servers, while the Modbus Server mode supports full Modbus data range and emulating multiple Modbus nodes.

Communications with a Logix controller (e.g., ControlLogix or CompactLogix) can be achieved via EtherNet/IP or the CIP USB interface. Direct-to-Tag technology enables the router to exchange data directly with Logix with no Logix programming required.  When using USB, a redundant system can be configured using one Router for each Logix controller. Only the Router connected to the Primary Logix controller will respond to the Modbus TCP requests.  The Router also supports the MicroLogix and SLC500 platforms.

The Router hosts two Ethernet ports that can be configured in a Device Level Ring (DLR) or linear topology. Network Time Protocol (NTP) is supported for external time synchronization.
