Digi Launches Industrial 5G Router with Active eSIM, Edge Compute and AI-Driven Operations

Industrial and enterprise IT and operational technology teams face persistent challenges when deploying cellular connectivity at scale. Field cabinets and kiosks often lack space for multiple networking devices. Industrial environments require hardware that can withstand extreme temperatures and hazardous conditions. At the same time, organizations must meet evolving compliance requirements and prepare for private LTE and 5G networks.

Digi International, a global provider of Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity products and services, looks to address these challenges with a single rugged platform that consolidates networking, compute, and secure connectivity into one device. The Digi IX25 next-generation industrial cellular router platform is designed to deliver secure, scalable connectivity for critical networking infrastructure. Four integrated Gigabit Ethernet ports eliminate the need for external switches in field cabinets and kiosks, reducing installation complexity, cost, and potential failure points.

Built for Harsh Environments and Critical Infrastructure

Digi IX25 is engineered for demanding industrial applications such as utilities and oil and gas deployments, operating from -40 °C to +75 °C and supporting certifications including C1D2, ATEX, E-Mark, and MIL-STD-810H. The platform uses Western cellular modules and supports TAA-compliant deployments.

The router platform supports LTE, 5G RedCap, and 5G eMBB across multiple SKUs built on a unified hardware architecture. It is also purpose-built for private LTE and 5G networks, with native support for spectrum from Anterix as well as CBRS and FirstNet bands.

Edge Computing for Industrial IoT

Digi IX25 features a quad-core processor and integrated resources to support Linux containers for applications such as SCADA integration, telemetry processing, and edge analytics. Organizations can run platforms such as AWS IoT Greengrass, Microsoft Azure IoT, and custom applications directly on the router. The router also features GSMA SGP.32-compliant eSIM support with live bootstrap pre-loaded, enabling zero-touch provisioning, remote carrier provisioning, and multi-carrier management without physical SIM swaps.

AI Enabled Intelligent Network Operations

Digi IX25 is centrally managed through Digi Remote Manager (DRM), Digi’s SOC 2 Type 2-compliant platform for secure provisioning, monitoring, firmware updates, and lifecycle management of distributed device fleets. This platform recently launched its MCP server, allowing customers to leverage natural language to query device fleets, automate workflows, generate configuration insights, and streamline troubleshooting.
