Entire Cisco Industrial Ethernet Switch Portfolio Now ISA/IEC 62443-4-1 and 4-2 Certified

Cisco, the global market share leader in industrial Ethernet switches, announced that their entire industrial Ethernet switch portfolio, including DIN rail, rackmount, and IP67-rated devices, is now certified to both ISA/IEC 62443-1-1 and 4-2.  The ISA/IEC 62443 standard provides a comprehensive framework for addressing and mitigating security vulnerabilities in industrial automation and control systems and is increasingly specified in industrial network infrastructure RFPs.

ISA/IEC 62443 addresses cybersecurity for operational technology in automation and control systems by outlining specific requirements. The standard is divided into different technical and process-related sections that describe a risk-based approach to preventing and managing security risks from the perspective of the control system operator, service providers, and component/system manufacturers. IEC 62443-4-1 outlines specific requirements for secure-by-design development, while 4-2 specifies the security capabilities required for a piece of equipment to be integrated into an industrial network.

Cisco networking products follow the strict Cisco Secure Development Lifecycle (CSDL) process, which enforces a secure-by-design philosophy in all stages from product planning, operating, monitoring, to end-of-life. The CSDL process is certified to comply with ISA/IEC 62443-4-1 requirements, which means that all Cisco products are 4-1 compliant.  ISA/IEC 62443-4-2 certification means that their industrial Ethernet switch devices meet secure-by-design requirements.
