We’ve seen AI in industrial operations gaining traction globally, though activity in Southeast Asia has been less visible. It is therefore worth noting, and encouraging, to see a more concrete development emerging out of Singapore.
Evonik and Imubit have started a pilot collaboration to evaluate advanced industrial AI applications at Evonik’s facility in Singapore, part of its global specialty chemicals production network.

The pilot, initiated by Evonik’s Advanced Process Innovation team, highlights a production use case around catalyst life insights, which stands out as a more specific application at the plant level. More broadly, the pilot is set up to evaluate how model-driven insights can support operating strategy execution under real conditions while also tightening coordination between process and operations teams.
Under the collaboration, Evonik engineers will work with Imubit to develop nonlinear, data-driven models using plant data within Imubit’s Deep Learning Process Control framework. These models are intended to reflect process behavior and operational constraints and will be used to simulate what-if scenarios across variables such as throughput, yield, stability, and energy efficiency.
Insights generated from the models will be provided to operators and engineers in an open-loop format as decision support across shifts. In parallel, the pilot will establish performance baselines and measurement approaches to assess outcomes more objectively.
At this stage, the effort remains an evaluation, with any future deployment decisions to be made based on results and in line with Evonik’s safety and operational governance processes. It is a relatively focused use case but a practical example of how advanced AI is beginning to be tested within live production environments locally, and a welcome step forward.
