Festo, a leading German manufacturer of pneumatic and electrical automation technology, has announced the adoption of PLCnext Technology, the open ecosystem for modern automation from Phoenix Contact, in future intelligent devices. This announcement comes after Festo’s search for a partner with an open system approach including an appropriate operating system. This new strategic technology partnership is intended to combine the complementary strengths of both companies with the aim of taking industrial automation to a new level.
The common goal is to meet the requirements arising from the convergence of IT and OT (Information Technology and Operations Technology) in industry through open automation solutions. The combination of know-how from the two companies is intended to enable cooperation toward solving future technological challenges, such as cybersecurity, as well as provide innovative solutions for Industry 4.0. Festo and their customers will benefit from the ability to offer customized automation solutions that meet specific customer requirements.
PLCnext from Phoenix Contact is an automation and IoT product line combining an open real-time control platform, a Linux software development and execution environment, automation engineering software, and cloud integration. The PLCnext ecosystem includes a vendor supported online software store and a supported developer community.
The new product generation is expected to be launched at the end of the year.
