Hitachi Acquires Joliet Electric Motors to Expand Electrification Solutions and Maintenance Services in North America

Hitachi Ltd. (Hitachi) has completed the acquisition of Joliet Electric Motors, LLC ("Joliet"), a company based in Joliet, Illinois, United States, that specializes in sales and maintenance services for large motors in North America. Hitachi Industrial Products Ltd., which focuses on the large industrial equipment business, will oversee Joliet's operations.

Hitachi Industrial Products entered the North American energy market through a partnership with Joliet in 2002 and has since delivered approximately 1,100 large motors. This acquisition establishes a local maintenance service base to help meet the growing demand for maintaining delivered products. Additionally, the collaboration will support maintenance services for approximately 7,000 wind farm generators and large motors in Hitachi Group products across North America.

  • Broader Service Scope: Joliet’s capabilities further enable maintenance of Hitachi products and those manufactured by other companies, which increases service flexibility.

  • Support for Renewable Energy: Maintenance services will extend to wind farm generators, aligning with renewable energy growth.

Strategic Objectives

  • Energy Transition Support: Hitachi Industrial Products provide solutions for upstream and downstream energy processes, further enabling the transition from fossil fuels to electrification.

  • Data-Driven Enhancements: Sensing devices will collect operational data from electrification products to develop maintenance applications. The Lumada platform will help to further optimize equipment designs and enhance energy efficiency.

With this acquisition, Hitachi Industrial Products further strengthens its North American presence, expanding its electrification offerings and contributing to its sustainable energy practices.
