Hitachi and Intel are Collaborating to explore opportunities in physical AI, advanced computing, and next-generation digital infrastructure for manufacturing, energy, mobility, and other critical industries.

Hitachi, Ltd. and Intel Corporation announced a strategic collaboration to explore opportunities that help to advance physical AI, advanced computing, and next-generation digital infrastructure across manufacturing, energy, mobility, and other critical industries.

Through the collaboration, the companies plan to combine Hitachi’s information technology, operational technology and product manufacturing knowledge with Intel’s computing capabilities and silicon-based platforms. The goal is to further develop next-generation compute capabilities and industry solutions that help organizations to modernize operations, improve efficiency, and build more intelligent and resilient infrastructure systems.

The companies plan to work together across five strategic pillars:

  • Foundry tools

  • Quantum computing

  • Energy optimization

  • Custom silicon and edge AI applications

  • Factory automation

In foundry tools, Hitachi gathers high-precision data generated from its metrology systems, critical dimension scanning electron microscopes, and etching systems on its integrated ExTOPE platform. Using physical AI, Hitachi applies this data to support predictive diagnostics and maintenance optimization, helping to improve yield, shorten time to market, and enhance quality in semiconductor manufacturing.

In quantum computing, the collaboration will help to strengthen co-development efforts between Hitachi and Intel research and development teams, with the goal of further accelerating the advancement of quantum technologies and creating new value.

The collaboration also includes energy optimization. Hitachi’s HMAX Energy will be deployed within Intel’s fabrication facilities to provide managed services for core power equipment. Intel also plans to supply high-voltage silicon chips to further improve Hitachi’s power systems.

In addition, the two companies are exploring opportunities in custom silicon, edge AI applications, and factory automation by leveraging their respective technologies.

The collaboration builds on a relationship of over 40 years between Hitachi and Intel. As physical AI gains momentum, the companies aim to support AI transformation across industries that depend on mission-critical social infrastructure. By combining Hitachi’s IT, OT, and product capabilities with Intel’s computing and AI technologies, the collaboration is expected to further support the deployment of intelligent, real-world systems across industrial environments.
