
This last week, I was in New York City attending IFS’s key Industrial AI event, “Industrial X Unleashed.” While the organization typically holds its Unleashed event every two years, the rapid advancements in industrial AI and industry developments prompted the need for a supplementary mini event this year. The gathering brought together leading figures from the industrial, software, hardware, and AI sectors to highlight the transition of industrial AI from concept to reality.
Highlights from the Event
IFS Vision: CEO Mark Moffat's keynote presented IFS’s vision of “Industrial AI applied,” which emphasized the practical integration of industrial AI into frontline workflows rather than just theory. He pointed out that IFS stands out by offering industry-specific, contextual AI solutions designed for field workers.
IFS Loops: Another highlight at the event was IFS Loops, which is IFS’s agentic-AI platform for industrial operations. The company calls its AI agents the new-age “digital workers” that can work alongside industrial workers. Somya Kapoor and Ravi Bulusu highlighted how “digital workers” can autonomously manage a wide range of mission-critical, repeatable workflows, integrate with enterprise systems, and deliver major improvements. Use cases highlighted covered automatic work order creation, field dispatch, and supplier coordination.
IFS Nexus Black: Vaibs Kumar and Kriti Sharma shared details on the new IFS innovation program that centers on industrial AI and co-innovation with industrial customers. Built on IFS's industrial-AI platform, it integrates with their enterprise ecosystem to deliver solutions such as predictive maintenance, manufacturing schedule optimization, and intelligent automation for heavy industry and critical operations.
Anthropic Partnership: While IFS is partnering with many major players in the industry, a few partnerships were highlighted at the event. One such partnership is with Anthropic. Garvan Doyle shared details on how IFS Nexus Black is teaming up with Anthropic to build industrial AI solutions for frontline and field operations in asset-intensive industries.
Boston Dynamics Partnership: Christian Pedersen and Merry Frayne shared IFS’s vision to combine robotics with agentic AI for field operations. The demo at the event showed how Boston Dynamics’ robot Spot can gather multimodal data (thermal, audio, video) and feed it into IFS.ai for better decision-making and action.

Siemens (Grid Software) Partnership: This partnership is focused on creating an autonomous, AI-powered energy grid for the future. Dr. Sabine Erlinghagen discussed the integration of asset investment planning, fieldwork, and operations, and how this collaboration merges Siemens’ expertise in grid intelligence with IFS’s industrial AI platform.
What I Liked
The event focused on outcomes and the value that industrial AI can bring. With specific use cases, IFS succeeded in moving past the generic hype. It highlighted the possibilities with AI and offered a glimpse of an AI-powered future.

Progressive end users are at the forefront of a rapidly changing technology landscape. It is always great to hear directly from them about their initiatives, successes, and challenges. Pedro Buhigas, Tony Alloway, Jason McMullen, Sean Remington, David Gladey, and Chris Merchant shared their stories with the audience.
The establishment of IFS Nexus Black and IFS Loops as distinct entities within IFS underscores the organization’s commitment to accelerating its growth in the industrial AI sector. The presence of young women in leadership roles within technology organizations serves as an inspiring example.
To Keep in Mind
The event showcased, through semi-live on-stage demos, the possibilities becoming reality through the convergence of LLMs, robotics, and domain-specific workflows. Although these demos presented ideal scenarios where everything operates flawlessly, this will certainly be the reality in the near future. End users should be prepared for some challenges, and adjustments will be necessary as we move toward that goal.
The event highlighted two contrasting perspectives. On one hand, IFS pointed out the need for mission-critical industries to deploy AI in the field and in real-time operations and urged users to move fast. The company emphasized that leadership in industrial AI is about speed and execution. On the other hand, it also brought attention to the fact that the majority of AI pilots are failing. IFS places significant emphasis on agentic AI, although this approach is still emerging in industrial environments. Discussions at the event addressed why only a small percentage of firms scale industrial AI today.
According to ARC Advisory Group research, many organizations are already experiencing AI fatigue. ARC’s Colin Masson, in his latest research, discusses the major reason leading to this AI scaling challenge.
What I Would Like to See Next Year
The event effectively showcased IFS's recent innovations, including IFS Loops and IFS Nexus Black, both of which demonstrate significant potential for the company and the wider industry. However, further clarification is needed regarding how these developments integrate with IFS’s core offerings—ERP, EAM, and FSM.
IFS effectively underscored the necessity of AI adoption through its "Industrial AI Applied" theme. However, to overcome ongoing challenges, organizations such as IFS must support end users in building confidence in AI technologies. This entails prioritizing the explainability of AI-driven decisions within industrial settings, as understanding the rationale behind AI recommendations or diagnoses is essential in high-stakes environments.
Industrial end users have moved beyond the initial consideration of whether to implement AI. As they advance in adopting AI technologies, they face complex challenges related to regulatory risks, data privacy, and compliance frameworks, particularly because industrial operations are frequently subject to rigorous regulations and AI-driven decisions can have significant safety or financial consequences. Organizations such as IFS must effectively address these concerns to facilitate and accelerate successful AI integration.
