As we head into a New Year, I always start to ruminate about what the future may bring in the coming months ahead. Leave aside my futile attempts to
prognosticate on the coming price of oil or which candidate(s) may win their respective political party nominations, I do know with some certainty that I will be presenting at ARC’s upcoming
Industry Forum on how IIoT enabled smart field devices can provide material operational improvements to companies operating in upstream or midstream oil & gas (pretty much any industry for that matter).
Dave Lafferty, President of Scientific Technical Services (retired BP), will also be discussing how
IIoT and field automation can help increase production, reduce costs, improve safety, and, most importantly, must help improve financial performance. David will discuss how a whole new architecture, an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT)-enabled enterprise architecture, may be required to fully realize the operational benefits.
A second speaker will be addressing the challenges of maximizing upstream production and highlighting the benefits of deploying multiphase flow metering solutions. Our third forum session speaker, from a national oil company (NOC) in Southeast Asia, will present on successfully leveraging wireless sensors to enhance operational safety on an offshore oil & gas platform.
For anyone working in the Northeast coming down to the warmth and sun of Orlando sounds like a good reason to get out of the office. Who knows, maybe you will learn something new and/or network with a valuable business contact or even see an old friend.
