Inductive Automation Launches Ignition 8.3 with LTS, Advanced Modules, and Gateway Redesign

Inductive Automation has released Ignition 8.3, an update to its industrial application platform used for SCADA, Industrial IoT, MES, and HMI solutions. The new version delivers additional capabilities in data processing efficiency, security, management, and development speed to help further elevate operational technology (OT) to modern IT standards and address the scalability requirements of digital transformation.

With Version 8.3, Inductive Automation continues its vision of providing an open and flexible platform for industrial application development. This release is designed to support applications seeking higher performance, improved security, and longer lifecycle stability.

Key Enhancements in Ignition 8.3

  • Industrial Historian Solution Suite: Includes Historian Core Module, SQL Historian Module, and a new Historian API for custom implementations.

  • Event Streams Module: Enables mapping and directing of event-driven data, connecting sources, such as tag changes and Kafka topics, with handlers, such as scripts and database tables.

  • Perspective Module Improvements: Adds a Drawing Editor with native vector tools, form generator, and offline mode for data entry and storage.

  • Redesigned Ignition Gateway: Faster web interface, integrated search, enhanced customization, and consolidated configuration/diagnostics.

  • Next-Level Security: Includes new Secrets Management system and Google Protobuf for more secure, faster client-gateway communication.

  • Long-Term Support (LTS): Guaranteed regular updates and enhancements for the next five years.

  • Additional Features: Including enhanced store-and-forward, improved enterprise deployment management, built-in REST API, Git-based version control and collaboration, simplified containerization.

These updates position Ignition 8.3 as a more scalable, secure, and future-ready platform, providing industrial applications with the tools and long-term support to help them modernize OT systems and accelerate digital transformation.
