Nozomi Networks and Schneider Electric recently announced the industry’s first security sensor embedded in Schneider Electric remote terminal units (RTUs). With Nozomi Arc Embedded in Schneider SCADAPack 47xi Smart RTUs, security and operations teams gain previously unavailable visibility at the control device layer of their industrial automation equipment and field assets. They can now analyze and deter control device-level threats and malicious user activity without impacting current resources or disrupting mission-critical networks. As a result, organizations benefit from improved operational resilience and uptime, reduced cyber risk, and better compliance.
“As cyber threats to the world’s energy resources rise, we’re working with Nozomi Networks and our customers in critical infrastructure to double down on effective defenses,” said Jay Abdallah, President – Cybersecurity Solutions at Schneider Electric. “Nozomi Arc Embedded in Schneider RTUs transforms remote terminal units into secure assets, giving operators the visibility they need to respond to threats before they can do harm.”
“We’re honored to team with Schneider Electric to bring Arc Embedded to their RTUs,” said Andrea Carcano, Co-founder and CPO of Nozomi Networks. “For more than eight years, our partnership with Schneider has allowed us to collaborate to find better ways to protect energy management and automation processes around the world. This latest effort with Arc Embedded extends security to and through industrial control systems, down to the highly remote field assets they manage, which are often left unmonitored and at greater risk.”
An RTU is an industrial device that collects, processes, and transmits data from sensors and actuators in remote or distributed locations such as rural water pumping stations and electrical substations in mountainous regions. They act as a bridge between field equipment and a central control system, enabling real-time monitoring and control of industrial processes. Widely used in the oil and gas industry and other critical infrastructure sectors, Schneider Electric’s SCADAPack 47xi Smart RTUs provide a cost-effective and secure platform that enhances cybersecurity features, making them a preferred choice for RTU needs.
By embedding Nozomi Arc Embedded directly into Schneider RTUs, security and operations teams gain, for the first time, deep visibility into critical data from within RTUs and the field assets they control, including:
RTU endpoint status: Software and hardware inventory, vulnerability details, and resource utilization.
Level 0 visibility: Arc Embedded extracts process variable data directly from the RTU, enabling unmatched visibility into physical processes and device states—without requiring external polling protocols.
Threat and anomaly detection: Arc Embedded detects malicious and suspicious operational actions, such as USB or SD card connections/removals, time-setting manipulation, changes to control logic and firmware, and mechanical manipulations.
Arc Embedded transforms existing industrial control systems into secure-by-design assets, offering a fully integrated security layer from an independent vendor that delivers robust, comprehensive protection for in-production systems.
Arc Embedded is available now for Schneider SCADAPack 47xi Smart RTUs through a subscription-based model from Schneider Electric, Nozomi Networks, and a global network of Nozomi Networks channel partners.
