AI-enabled retail PLM capabilities focused on automating tech pack creation and improving development efficiency.

PTC announced new artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities for its FlexPLM retail product lifecycle management (PLM) solution that automates tech pack creation, which is one of the most time-consuming and error-prone steps in retail product development.

The AI-powered enhancements are designed to help retail brands further streamline product development by reducing manual work and improving data accuracy across early design and development stages. Specifically, the new FlexPLM capabilities help to enable brands to:

  • Further automate the creation of tech packs from design drawings.

  • Reduce errors, rework, and development costs associated with manual data entry.

  • Move faster from concept to sample by accelerating sampling and costing cycles.

Traditionally, converting design sketches into production-ready specifications can require extensive manual efforts and multiple handoffs between design and development teams, which can increase the risk of errors and delays. With FlexPLM’s AI-driven tech pack generation capabilities, teams can automatically extract data from design drawings and populate bills of materials, measurements, construction details, attributes, and colorways. Eliminating manual data entry can help brands to improve speed, accuracy, and responsiveness to changing market demands.

These capabilities extend PTC’s Intelligent Product Lifecycle strategy, which helps to unify structured product data with AI to improve decision-making, streamline workflows, and increase productivity across the product lifecycle. By embedding intelligence directly into core PLM processes, retail product development teams can work more efficiently while maintaining data consistency from early design through downstream development activities.

FlexPLM supports end-to-end retail transformation, including AI-enabled product development, improved supply chain visibility, and support for sustainability initiatives and evolving regulatory requirements. Intelligent retail PLM can help organizations manage growing complexity while improving operational efficiency.

This announcement reflects a broader shift in retail product development toward applying AI to historically manual, collaboration-heavy processes. Automating the generation of structured product data from early design assets helps to address an often-persistent bottleneck in the development cycle and underscores the growing role of AI within modern PLM platforms.
