Rockwell Automation announced the release of OptixEdge, a new edge gateway solution designed to help industrial customers process data in real time at the source. With today’s smart machines producing vast amounts of data, many organizations face challenges in accessing and using it efficiently due to network limitations, security concerns, or the cost of cloud-based storage.
OptixEdge helps to address these issues by processing data at the edge, directly at the machine, before selectively sending it to the cloud. The system connects with Rockwell Automation’s FactoryTalk® Optix™ software to help enable real-time data collection, analysis, and visualization across multiple machines and locations.
This launch reflects a growing industry trend toward decentralizing data processing. By moving analysis closer to the source, manufacturers can help to reduce cloud dependence, improve responsiveness, and lower operational costs, while maintaining greater flexibility across hardware ecosystems.
